Stormwater retention chambers
CONTECH Construction Products Inc. introduced the ChamberMaxx system, a corrugated, open-bottom plastic arch system for the retention of stormwater runoff. The below-grade system maximizes available land for development and can support traffic loading for installation under parking lots and roadways. The injection-molded chambers are designed to exceed HS-20/HS-25 live loads in accordance with AASHTO (Section 12) LRFD design specifications for stormwater chambers. Each chamber provides 49 cubic feet of available storage. In retention applications, the ChamberMaxx system recharges groundwater, which can achieve reduced discharge objectives. CONTECH recommends installation of a pretreatment water quality unit upstream of the ChamberMaxx system for the highest level of performance.

Geospatial imagery software
ERDAS LPS 9.3, expected to begin shipping late this month, transforms raw imagery into accurate, reliable geospatial data. A new component of the LPS 9.3 product suite, PRO600 Fundamentals for PowerMap, makes production-oriented feature extraction accessible to a broad range of users. Seamlessly integrated with Bentley PowerMap XM, PRO600 Fundamentals increases the productivity of the 3-D feature extraction process, the company says. PRO600 Fundamentals offers interoperability with a wide array of GIS and photogrammetric systems and formats. With LPS 9.3, the LPS Terrain Editor module offers a new Control Point Review Tool, enabling users to check the quality of a digital terrain model with respect to ground control points, check points, and tie points.

Visualization software
Transoft Solutions, Inc., announced that it will provide North and South American distribution of 3AM Solutions’ Dynamite VSP and Dynamite SIM civil engineering visualization software products. Using Dynamite VSP, civil engineers can render 3-D visualizations of projects developed using AutoCAD Civil 3D; Bentley MX, Inroads, or Geopak; or I2D Model. Additionally, generated renderings and AVI animations maintain a dynamic link to the civil model, keeping visualizations updated with design changes. Dynamite SIM, an add-on module available for Dynamite VSP, allows importing traffic simulation data from third-party applications (such as VSSIM) to create 3-D visualizations with accurate, real-world traffic flow data.

Approved water-treatment membranes
Dow Water Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, announced that its DOW Ultrafiltration (UF) membrane modules were approved as an Alternative Filtration Technology for treating drinking water. DOW UF was tested and certified under the California Surface Water Treatment Rule, as well as the federal Long Term 1 and Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rules. Testing demonstrated the effectiveness of DOW UF in removing harmful pathogens from water and the operational integrity of the modules. According to the company, benefits to the water treatment industry include an ultimate barrier for removing suspended solids and pathogens; pressurized, outside-in flow configuration to handle high-suspended solids, minimizing pre-treatment and lowering capital cost; and hydrophilic, PVDF double-wall hollow fibers that reduce fouling and have excellent chemical resistance and strength, resulting in durable, long membrane life.
