The market
CE News serves the civil engineering industry, which is composed of a broad range of technical disciplines. The engineered construction market is made up of four project segments: commercial, industrial, institutional, and public works. This $300 billion civil engineering industry plays an integral role in creating and maintaining virtually all aspects of society's infrastructure — including highways, bridges, buildings, transit systems, and related support systems. Civil engineers, whether in private firms or government agencies, work in many specialty areas including residential and commercial land development, structural, transportation, environmental, geotechnical, and water resource engineering. With an estimated 23% growth rate by the year 2005 — making it a $370 billion industry — the civil engineering market will continue to broaden its influence and increase its purchasing power. And, it is the civil engineer that by law specifies and approves the components used in design and construction projects.
Our niche
CE News is different from other industry publications because its editorial content focuses on the "real life" challenges facing todays civil engineers and how to succeed in spite of them. Compared to other trade publications that simply follow industry events, CE News leads the industry by providing news, business advice, how-to information, and management tips that engineers can use in their day-to-day operations. It's this practical, comprehensive editorial approach that's made CE News the magazine of choice for the industry's movers and shakers — licensed professional engineers including private practice owners, firm principals, and project managers. In fact, CE News reaches more of this powerful market segment than any other industry publication.
Your customers
CE News attracts the leaders of this very diverse and growing industry. So its nearly 50,000 subscribers are active professionals who have the authority to specify and approve a wide range of products and services. It is the civil engineer that is critical to specifying your product during the project life cycle. CE News delivers an audience that has the ability to affect your bottom line with considerable purchasing power.

CE News magazine
General: Contributors are encouraged to query the editor before submitting editorial, although this is not a requirement. An outline, abstract, or informal description of the article are all acceptable formats for the query. Unsolicited news and product releases are accepted via postal mail and email. A brief biography of the author is appreciated. Feature articles are accepted via email or postal mail on a CD. A brief description about the author is recommended. Contributors must disclose financial, economic, or professional interest or affiliations that may influence the position taken or methods advocated in their submissions.
Since document formatting is sometimes ruined during software translation, a hard copy of all feature articles should be submitted as well (by mail or fax). Please include your name and contact information. The editor prefers that press releases be sent via e-mail, either within the body of the e-mail message or as an attached Microsoft Word document.
Feature articles must be submitted exclusively to CE News. If it is declined by CE News, it may be submitted elsewhere for publication.

Technical feature articles are to be 2,000 to 4,000 words in length and very technical in nature. They generally take a "how to" tone and detail some aspect of civil engineering or land surveying. Non-technical feature articles of 1,000 to 3,000 words in length will also be considered for publication.
Artwork: Contributors are encouraged to submit artwork. Digital images at a resolution of 300 dpi at 4x5 inches or larger in JPG, EPS, TIFF, or PSD format are the preferred format, but slides and color prints (no smaller than 4x6 inches) may be accepted.
