Webinar details GIS’s crucial role in managing America’s infrastructure

AURORA, COLO. — America’s water and sewer infrastructure continues to age and deteriorate and government officials are relying on geographic information systems (GIS) technology as a fiscally and environmentally sustainable model for current and future operational improvements. Join Elthron Anderson, GIS administrator for Southgate Water and Sanitation Districts in Centennial, Colo., and Stephen McElroy, Ph.D., GIS program chair for American Sentinel University, as they discuss how Southgate uses GIS for optimized water and sewer asset management and infrastructure sustainability in a complimentary webinar, “Optimized Asset Management and Infrastructure Sustainability with GIS” on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 1 p.m. EDT.

The interactive presentation will discuss:
• the critical role GIS plays in asset management;
• the important role systems integration plays in better achieving the objectives of any asset management program;
• how infrastructure management teams utilize tools that leverage the GIS for fiscal forecasting; and
• how engineers and operators utilize tools that leverage GIS and other critical data sources to improve decision-making for Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) O&M activities.

“GIS offers today’s infrastructure managers with the only true solution for achieving a fiscally sustainable model that satisfies both operational and improvements costs,” says Dr. McElroy. “The Southgate Water and Sanitation Districts’ needs are like many other organizations that manage our nation's infrastructure and their use of GIS for sustainable sewer and water infrastructure improvements represent a great example of how companies can use GIS technology to embark on a sustainable approach to managing its aging infrastructure.”
