Vine Associates joins GZA GeoEnvironmental

NEWBURYPORT, HINGHAM AND NORWOOD, MASS. — GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc., an environmental and geotechnical consulting firm, has announced that Vine Associates, Inc. (VAI) has joined the company and significantly expanded GZA’s Marine Engineering capabilities.

VAI is a successful 23-year-old Massachusetts-based marine planning and engineering firm that works for both private and public clients. It brings a staff to GZA which is highly experienced in all aspects of the waterfront including civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering; saltwater dredging; underwater inspection; planning; beach and coastal surveys; and environmental permitting. VAI also provides a broad array of general engineering services to municipal clients.

Over the past several years GZA has developed a special initiative aimed at serving the unique needs of a variety of clients with waterfront properties. Not only are there many regulations governing coastal lands, but there is also the highly variable nature of the constantly changing environment. By uniting VAI's operations with GZA's, the company now has the full range of capabilities to serve projects from small planning assignments to design of a major marine terminal.

All of VAI's employees have become GZA employees and VAI's founding principal, David Vine, P.E., has joined GZA as a vice president. The Newburyport and Hingham, Mass. offices will operate as part of GZA's Metro Boston operation. As a fully integrated team, all activities going forward will be conducted utilizing a combined VAI/GZA name.

“Both VAI and GZA have always operated under the belief that success is based on quality individuals providing responsive service to their clients and have built reputations for being among the best in the business,” said William R. Beloff, president and CEO of GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. “We offer our continued, combined commitment to provide the highest level of service for all of our existing and new clients.”

Civil engineering industry outlook - Part 1

While 2011 didn't offer too much progress in an economic turnaround, it seems that many people in the architecture, engineering, planning (A/E/P) and environmental consulting industries are adjusting to challenges. For 2012, increased stability is expected, although large changes don't seem likely.
