SAN DIEGO — SCS Engineers, an environmental consulting firm and solid waste management firm, has expanded its San Diego facilities by 30 percent in order to meet the needs of their growing client base.

The expansion of the firm’s California Stormwater and Field Services Practice Groups stems from recent implementation of new regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for greenhouse gas emissions, and from the state of California for stormwater requirements. “SCS is ramping up to meet our clients’ needs for these services. We are currently supporting a number of projects, helping our clients meet the new standards,” said Vice President Daniel E. Johnson of SCS Engineers.

The SCS Field Services department, led in San Diego by Steven Cooper, provides monitoring and maintenance services for solid waste landfill and landfill gas-related projects. Concern for greenhouse gas emissions has led to a rapidly changing regulatory landscape with increased demand for the range of greenhouse gas verification and monitoring services that SCS provides.

The Stormwater practice in California, led by Sean Porter, works with municipalities, industry, and private developers to meet the requirements of California’s Stormwater Industrial Permit and the new Stormwater Construction General Permit which has added prevention and monitoring requirements.

SCS Tracer Environmental, the result of the recent acquisition of Tracer ES&T Inc., is based in San Marcos and specializes in air quality, regulatory compliance, hazardous materials risk management, and the use of tracer gases to evaluate air dispersion and performance of emission control systems.

SCS maintains a combined technical and field staff of 73 in two offices in San Diego.
