Private-sector opportunities in transportation infrastructure
The Opportunities in Transportation Infrastructure Conference, May 14-16, 2008, in Washington, D.C., will feature public-sector officials who will provide briefings on upcoming opportunities for private-sector involvement in toll roads, ports, transit, and airports. In addition, David Crane, special advisor to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for jobs and economic growth, will offer a keynote address on California’s $500 Billion Infrastructure Challenge.

The approximately 45 speakers include representatives from states that have expressed an intention to pursue a partnership with the private sector to renew their respective transportation infrastructures. These speakers include Roy Kienitz, deputy chief of staff to Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell; Susan Martinovich, Nevada’s secretary of transportation; and Jay Gonzalez, undersecretary, Executive Office of Administration & Finance for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, among others.

From the separate arenas of ports and airports, Paul Volpe, CFO of the city of Chicago, will provide a progress report on the Midway Airport privatization; and Gary LaGrange, president and CEO of the Port of New Orleans, will discuss their ambitious 2020 Master Plan to harness $1 billion in investment to secure the port’s position at the forefront of the global marketplace.

In addition, the conference will offer a Transportation Infrastructure Tutorial, featuring industry professionals, including Walter Kemmsies of Moffatt & Nichol, Jay Zukerman of Ernst & Young, Fredric Kessler of Nossaman Guthner Knox & Elliott, and Kent Rowey of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
