Kristen Boswell becomes the first fourth-generation licensed P.E. in New Jersey

SOUTH HACKENSACK, N.J. — Boswell Engineering announced that Kristen A. Boswell has become the first fourth-generation licensed professional engineer in the state of New Jersey. Kristen's great grandfather David C. Boswell, her grandfather Howard L. Boswell, and her father Stephen T. Boswell were all licensed professional engineers in the state of New Jersey.

Kristen Boswell is a 2006 civil engineering graduate from Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering. She currently divides her time between the transportation and municipal departments, designing all aspects of transportation systems and managing the full spectrum of Boswell's services with municipal clients.

In order to protect public health and safety, the state of New Jersey began to license engineers in 1929. Since that time, nearly 50,000 engineers have been licensed. In order to be a licensed professional engineer, an individual must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited engineering program, pass the fundamentals of engineering exam, practice for four years under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer, and then pass the principals and practice exam and a legal exam.
