CAMBRIDGE, MASS. — HDR is part of the team providing design services to improve public infrastructure at Kendall Square, located adjacent to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. The area houses more than 150 technology companies and is transforming into a 24/7 neighborhood. Housing, recreational, and cultural amenities are playing increasingly important roles, however, circulation and public infrastructure have not been comprehensively addressed since the early 1980s.

As a subconsultant to Kleinfelder/SEA, HDR is providing design services related to making Kendall Square more suited to today's urban use. Specific services include project management, engineering design of streets and plazas, pedestrian and bicycle planning and design, public art coordination, stakeholder process, cost estimating, and construction administration. The firm also will manage key subconsultants providing traffic engineering and landscape architecture/urban design services. The design phase is anticipated to be completed by roughly September 2012.
