Employment initiative to help outplaced engineers

Bentley Systems, Inc., launched its Be Employable initiative to help in sustaining infrastructure professions. Be Employable, an addition to Bentley’s Be Careers Network, is designed to help outplaced architectural, engineering, construction, and geospatial professionals update and upgrade their technology skill sets. It provides free access to Bentley’s software portfolio and training, as well as the ability to earn learning units from the Bentley Institute, Bentley’s training organization. According to Bentley, Be Employable participants will be better positioned as top candidates for employment opportunities across a broad spectrum of projects and once back in the workforce, will be able to deliver greater value to their new employers.

The enhanced Be Careers Network Resume Center, which can be found on the Be Communities networking site, connects recent graduates entering the infrastructure disciplines and students seeking internships with hiring managers. Outplaced infrastructure professionals who have improved their skills using the Be Employable initiative can also use the Resume Center to connect with these same organizations.

The new Be Employable initiative makes the following tools available to any outplaced infrastructure professional throughout 2009:

  • access to Bentley’s V8i software portfolio for noncommercial use;
  • instructor-led online distance learning;
  • OnDemand eLearning for self-paced learning; and
  • comprehensive learning transcripts to help maintain professional accreditation.

For additional information about Bentley’s Be Employable initiative or for individuals, infrastructure organizations, and professional associations interested in pre-registering, visit www.bentley.com/beemployable.

Bentley’s Be Careers Network Resume Center allows participants to post their skills, background, and career objectives at no charge using a specially designed web form. Hiring managers at infrastructure organizations in the solution communities served by Bentley (including roads, bridges, rail and transit, campuses, factories, buildings, power generation, mining and metals, oil and gas, water and wastewater, electric and gas utilities, communications, and cadastre and land development) can search through this information free of charge.

Civil engineering industry outlook - Part 1

While 2011 didn't offer too much progress in an economic turnaround, it seems that many people in the architecture, engineering, planning (A/E/P) and environmental consulting industries are adjusting to challenges. For 2012, increased stability is expected, although large changes don't seem likely.
