Edminster, Hinshaw, Russ and Associates Inc. celebrates 75th Anniversary

HOUSTON — Edminster, Hinshaw, Russ and Associates Inc. (EHRA) is celebrating its 75th anniversary in November 2011. Edminster Engineering began as a small engineering firm founded in 1936 by Truman C. Edminster, Sr. Subsequent founding partners Conrad Hinshaw and R. Terry Russ joined the firm in 1969 and 1978 respectively to establish the current company namesake. EHRA is the second oldest engineering firm in the Houston area to remain in continuous operation.

EHRA is putting a new face on old drainage solutions. EHRA is an area leader in implementing low-impact development (LID) techniques into new communities and is on the cutting edge of this new land development design approach. LID techniques utilize natural processes and green space integrated into the development to handle increased stormwater run-off generated by the new development. EHRA is working with private clients and government entities to ensure that LID is widely accepted and implemented through the greater Houston area.

Over the last 75 years, EHRA has grown from a small firm to a multi-disciplined engineering firm that can assist client with all aspects of land and site development. Engineering services performed by EHRA include land development, site development, LID, transportation, public works, hydrology and hydraulics, public infrastructure, and structures including retaining walls and bridges. In addition to these engineering services, EHRA also provides surveying, land planning, landscape architecture and graphic design. With all of these services located in-house, EHRA is truly a “one-stop shop” for development!

Throughout its 75 years, EHRA has worked on various engineering projects in the Houston area and around the world, including Houston landmarks Sam Houston Race Park and Willowbrook Mall, and major transportation projects including Beltway 8 and the Grand Parkway. EHRA serves as the engineering for over 40 municipal utility districts and similar government authorities. EHRA is instrumental in engineering some of the Houston area’s premier single family communities and master-planned subdivisions, currently including Towne Lake in northwest Houston. EHRA is currently engineering land development projects totaling more than 12, 000 acres, in addition to numerous public works projects throughout the Greater Houston region.

Ownership of the firm has transferred over the years from the founding partners through their families and is currently owned by Truman C. Edminster, III, P.E., and James B.Russ. Under their guidance, EHRA has become an employee-owned company, which will ensure the firm’s continuous operation.
