CH2M HILL’s Ron Williams named 2010 Outstanding Engineer of the Year 

DENVER ─ CH2M HILL wastewater treatment engineer Ron Williams has been named the 2010 Outstanding Engineer of the Year by the Greater Phoenix Area Engineering Community as part of the Greater Phoenix Area Engineers Week annual celebrations. Members of the local engineering community nominate Outstanding Engineering Award candidates based on their contributions to the profession and to public welfare; their professional integrity and ethics; and their statewide professional reputation.

Williams was nominated for the award by Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department where he is currently serving as the project design manager for the department’s $277 million Construction Manager at Risk upgrade and expansion project of the Ina Road Wastewater Reclamation facility.

In the nomination form, Pima County notes Williams’ “...dedication and commitment to success of this project…has met or exceeded every engineering milestone for this complicated, multiple phased project…His service as a professional engineer working for the public good has been exceptional…has demonstrated a high level of professional integrity though his involvement in all levels of this project…served as a solid sounding board and objective advisor for many project challenges…with a positive attitude and can-do approach, and has become a stabilizing voice through the many project meetings and discussions…impacted this project in a very positive way. . .”

With Ron’s focus on providing the best solutions for his client, being an integral part of the client’s team, and protecting the welfare of the public, he exemplifies what we strive to achieve as professional engineers. I congratulate Ron on receiving this prestigious award.”

Williams is a senior sanitary engineer and project manager who has more than 23 years of experience in municipal wastewater treatment plant evaluations, facility planning, design, plant expansions, and evaluations. Locally, he has completed several design projects that give him a unique understanding of regulatory requirements and implementation, and has served as project engineer or project manager for dozens of projects in Arizona, such as recently acting as project delivery manager for the Rio Salado Environmental Restoration Project being conducted by USACE in concert with the city of Phoenix as well as project manager for the city of Sedona’s Wastewater Reclamation Facility Upgrade and Expansion Project.

Williams earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from New Mexico State University, and has called Phoenix home for 22 years. He is active in the greater engineering community through participation in the Arizona Water Association, and is active in the greater Arizona community through his involvement with St. Anne Catholic Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Paz De Cristo Kitchen Pantry, and as a YMCA Youth Basketball Coach and Gilbert Little League Baseball Coach.
