Dewberry Chairman Sidney O. Dewberry, PE, LS, has announced that Donald E. Stone, Jr., PE, an engineer with nearly 30 years’ experience, will serve as the firm’s next chief executive officer. Stone, Dewberry’s current chief operating officer, will assume his new responsibilities on April 2, 2010. The chairman also announced that Dan M. Pleasant, PE, president of Dewberry’s southeast division, has been chosen as the new chief operating officer.

Stone will succeed Ronald L. Ewing, PE, RLS, a highly respected engineer who has been with Dewberry since 2002, when he was brought on board as chief operating officer. Prior to joining Dewberry, Ewing was a regional general manager for a large international firm and was responsible for a staff of over 1,100 with gross revenue of $140 million. He has participated in the due diligence, acquisition and integration of several firms.

For much of his 40-plus years in the industry, Ewing has also planned, engineered and managed transportation, aviation, water resources, and major public works projects throughout the United States. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers; past chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) professional development committee, served on the executive committee, and is presently a fellow, ACEC management practice committee chair, and ACEC liaison to the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. Ewing is also past chairman of the Civil Engineering Institute of George Mason University.

In addition to ensuring a smooth transition for Stone and Pleasant into their new roles, Ewing may continue to be involved with Dewberry on various initiatives. Ewing also plans to retire and move to Colorado.
