AECOM wins seven awards for Fillmore, Calif., water recycling project

LOS ANGELES — AECOM Technology Corporation recently won seven awards for its work on the city of Fillmore Water Recycling Program (WRP) project in California. AECOM acted as the program manager for the $72 million WRP, which replaced the existing Fillmore plant with a new, state-of-the-science water recycling facility that ended the practice of river discharge and enabled 100-percent reuse of treated effluent.

The project was honored with the following awards:

  • 2010 Public-Private Partnership Award from the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships;
  • 2010 Project of the Year in Waste/Wastewater from the American Public Works Association (APWA) Ventura County chapter;
  • 2010 Ventura County Project of the Year Award from APWA, presented during National Engineers Week;
  • 2010 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) California Engineering Excellence Honor Award;
  • 2010 ACEC Engineering Excellence Award National Finalist for Project of the Year;
  • 2010 ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards National Recognition Award; and
  • 2010 Global Water Awards Water Reuse Project of the Year Runner-up from the Global Water Intelligence Summit in Paris, France.

“We are honored to receive these recognitions for our work with the city of Fillmore in improving the city’s water resources for the residents,” said AECOM’s Global Managing Director of Water Rob Andrews. “In particular, this project is a great demonstration in the use of public-private partnership funding to achieve critical infrastructure improvement.”

The project delivered several benefits, including: providing wastewater-treatment capabilities sufficient to meet regulatory requirements and satisfying the demand of Fillmore residents through 2025; implementing water reclamation throughout the city; protecting and improving the region's water resources; educating the public on the benefits of water recycling; enhancing recreational opportunities and the quality of life via project components; and realizing cost efficiencies on behalf of taxpayers.
