AECOM wins contract for Texas’ North Tarrant Express highway project

LOS ANGELES — AECOM Technology Corporation, a provider of professional technical and management support services for government and commercial clients around the world, announced that it has been awarded a contract from Bluebonnet Contractors to provide engineering services for the first phase of the Texas Department of Transportation’s North Tarrant Express project.

The Bluebonnet Contractors design-build team was retained by the project’s public-private partnership (P3) concessionaire NTE Mobility Partners.

AECOM will, as the leading consultant to Bluebonnet, provide engineering-design, planning and advisory services for the 6.5-mile reconstruction of Interstate Highway 820 and the addition of four toll-managed lanes, including frontage roads and auxiliary lanes that will nearly double its existing capacity.

AECOM’s fees for the contract were not disclosed.

“We are excited to play a key role in the completion of this vital, US$2.1-billion concession facility roadway project, which is the first of its kind in the Dallas-Fort Worth area," said John M. Dionisio, AECOM president and chief executive officer. “These major corridor improvements will ease congestion as well as improve mobility and air quality in Tarrant County.”

The roadway is expected to be operational by 2015.

Civil engineering industry outlook - Part 1

While 2011 didn't offer too much progress in an economic turnaround, it seems that many people in the architecture, engineering, planning (A/E/P) and environmental consulting industries are adjusting to challenges. For 2012, increased stability is expected, although large changes don't seem likely.
