Vancouver, Wash., mayor and INC. Entrepreneur of the Year to keynote ASFE Fall Meeting
SILVER SPRING, MD.
— Vancouver, Wash., Mayor Timothy D. Leavitt, P.E., director of civil engineering services for PBS Engineering + Environmental, and Larry Taylor, INC. magazine Entrepreneur of the Year, will keynote the upcoming Fall Meeting of ASFE/The Geoprofessional Business Association, Oct. 7-9, 2010. Leavitt will address engineering leadership through public service. Taylor will provide guidance to help already-successful companies get to “the next level” by focusing on strategy, culture, and people.

Study examines effects of disinfectants on PE pipe
IRVING, TEXAS
— The Plastics Pipe Institute, Inc. (PPI) announced that a study was completed on the potential effects of disinfectants on potable water supply polyethylene (PE) pipe.

Commissioned by the PPI and The Alliance for PE Pipe, the study, conducted by Jana Laboratories, examines the various areas of a potable water system including chlorination, durability, oxidative aggressiveness, temperature, and pressure/stress.

Esri and ACSM co-host Survey Summit
REDLANDS, CALIF.
— The Survey Summit is a new conference co-hosted by Esri and the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM). Replacing the Esri Survey & Engineering GIS Summit, it is designed for surveyors who are interested in geospatial technologies to explore the newest technology trends, workflows, equipment, and business opportunities in surveying and related fields.

The summit will take place in San Diego, July 9–12, 2011.

New brochure on use and installation of epoxy-coated reinforcing bars
SCHAUMBURG, ILL.
— The Epoxy Interest Group of CRSI announced the publication of a brochure on the use and installation of epoxy-coated reinforcing bars. This brochure provides information on jobsite handling of epoxy-coated bars that reduces the need for costly touch-up work required prior to concrete placement and would be of interest to engineers, architects, and contractors.
