Hydraulic resource

January 2005 » New & Noteworthy

Haestad Methods recently introduced FlowMaster 2005, an advanced version of its hydraulic toolbox for water resources engineers. FlowMaster 2005 is a modeling software program that lets professionals streamline the hydraulic design and analysis of pipes, open channels, weirs, orifices, and inlets. Version 2005 includes gradually varied flow analysis and several new section types to assist engineers with solving complex hydraulic problems quickly and accurately. Improved graphical formatting and customization capabilities make the built-in rating tables and performance curves more attractive. Version 2005 allows modelers to perform hydraulic calculations quickly for dozens of element types, including pipes, open channels, drop inlets, and weirs; to solve for any unknown property or design for any desired characteristic; to produce detailed reports, graphs, and rating tables; and to generate gradually varied flow profiles for pipes and open channels.

FlowMaster has been accepted by the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency and has been added to its list of numerical models accepted for use in the National Flood Insurance Program.

Civil engineering industry outlook - Part 1

While 2011 didn't offer too much progress in an economic turnaround, it seems that many people in the architecture, engineering, planning (A/E/P) and environmental consulting industries are adjusting to challenges. For 2012, increased stability is expected, although large changes don't seem likely.
