Retro calculator
HP unveiled a retro HP 35s Scientific Calculator to commemorate the original HP-35, the world’s first handheld scientific calculator launched 35 years ago. The HP 35s pays tribute to its lineage with a classic design that is reminiscent of the original HP-35, including protective raised edges. According to HP, the new calculator is also its most advanced scientific programmable calculator, featuring ample memory for keystroke programming, equation solving, and more than 800 storage registers; 100 built-in functions; and a large, two-line display with adjustable contrast. For greater flexibility, the HP 35s allows users to switch between Reverse Polish Notation and the traditional algebraic mode.

Ultra-definition display
Mersive Technologies says its m11 Stylus is a cost-efficient, ultra-definition display. The first in a line of Mersive m-Series displays, the m11 Stylus provides a seamless, rear-projected, 11 million-pixel palette on a 14-foot-wide by 5-foot-tall viewable screen surface. Designed for engineering review and collaboration, the self-contained m-Series Stylus occupies only 36 inches of floor depth to fit in small conference rooms and engineering work areas. According to the company, the m-Series Stylus helps engineers more effectively view high-resolution information such as 3-D design models, computational fluid dynamics data, and still images.

Rugged notebook
The GETAC M230 is the latest ultra-slim model of GETAC’s Rugged Notebook family. It is powered by Intel Centrino Mobile Technology with a Core Duo processor, and is equipped with a 14.1-inch or 15-inch, sunlight-readable LCD screen. Touch screen capability is optional. Users can switch from built-in WLAN to an optional 3G communication solution to maintain accessibility to networks without adding extension modules. The M230 has a built-in TPM 1.2 chip and Smart Card reader to protect data. A magnesium alloy case, shock-mounted hard drive, and spill-resistant keyboard and touch pad make the M230 Mil-Std 810F and IP54 compliant. It also features sealed ports and connectors and, according to the company, is vibration and drop-shock resistant.

Jobsite webcams
OxBlue Corporation offers an integrated, professional-grade, high-definition digital camera system that uses cellular technology to transmit images from a construction jobsite to any location with Internet access. The OxBlue system, designed specifically for the requirements of the construction industry, comes as a turnkey package, including hardware, software, image hosting, website hosting, and technical support. There are no long term contracts and clients only pay for the number of days they use the service. The client owns the hardware and can relocate it at no cost. According to the company, the system provides improved coordination between field and off-site personnel; a permanent record of weather, site conditions, and work sequences; and reduced travel costs.

Graphics processing for notebooks
NVIDIA Corporation introduced a NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics processing unit (GPU) architecture for notebook computers that it says enables engineers working with large datasets, models, and images in applications such as computer-aided design, digital content creation, and imaging to extend the power and capabilities of their desktop workstations with mobile solutions. The new line of mobile graphics solutions includes NVIDIA Quadro FX 1600M, Quadro FX 570M, and Quadro FX 360M. Features include a unified architecture that is capable of dynamically allocating compute, geometry, shading, and pixel processing power for optimized GPU performance and PowerMizer 7.0 Technology that adapts to the user’s needs for longer battery life and improved performance by reducing notebook power consumption and heat generation for the graphics subsystem.

3-D printers
Z Corporation says its 3-D printers allow for use of multiple print-heads to support full-color printing at a high speed. The machines create 3-D physical models directly from digital data. A 3-D CAD file is imported into the proprietary system software, which slices the file into thin cross-sections that are "fed" to the printer. The printer builds models by spreading a layer of powder and inkjet printing a binder. Full-color printing allows the addition of annotations, engineering labels, and texture maps. The company’s high-definition, 3-D printing is designed to support production of models with complex geometries and small, detailed features. The printers can be installed and operated in any standard office environment.
