Charles Gravano joined Halcrow as vice president, geomatics and GIS. Based in New York, he is developing the firm’s spatial data management business in North America. Gravano is a land surveyor with 35 years of experience in the municipal and private sectors, including project management and quality assurance.

James K. Johnston, P.E., R.B.P., chairman of PMK Group, is the new president of ASFE/The Best People on Earth, a not-for-profit association of "earth-engineering" firms. Johnston is the 37th individual to serve as ASFE’s president and board of directors chair. The two additional officers and five directors-at-large who comprise the balance of the ASFE board are President-Elect Edmond D. Alizadeh, Esq., P.E. (Geotechnology, Inc.); Secretary/Treasurer David E. Lourie, P.E., R.B.P. (Lourie Consultants); Mark K. Kramer, P.E. (Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc.); James W. Martin, P.E., R.B.P. (AMEC Earth & Environmental, Inc.); Ronald M. McOmber, P.E. (CTL/Thompson, Inc.); David A. Schoenwolf, P.E. (Haley & Aldrich, Inc.); and Michael V. Smith, P.G., C.E.G. (Earth Systems, Inc.).

Kenneth E. Robbins, CCCA, was named Denver office manager at ASCG Inc. Robbins joined ASCG in 1990 and since 1994 has served as the firm’s Barrow, Alaska, office manager. He was appointed senior vice president in 1996 and recently completed a two-year term as president of the American Indian Council of Architects and Engineers.

Brown and Caldwell announced that Karl J. Dreher joined the company as a vice president in its water resources practice. The former director of the Idaho Department of Water Resources, Dreher has been in the industry for more than 30 years and will be responsible for developing and managing water resources projects throughout the West.

Brien Gidlow, P.E., a senior project manager and civil and environmental engineer based in HDR’s Denver office, was named president of the Colorado chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies. Gidlow has been active with ACEC/CO since 1996 and previously served as vice-president.

Leslie R. Brunell, Ph.D., a lecturer in civil engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology and a Stevens alumna, was named Educator of the Year 2007 by the North New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In addition to her duties as lecturer, Brunell directs the Graduate Water Resources program and is also a consulting engineer with Medina Consultants of Hackettstown, N.J.

Greg M. Goodwin joined PBS&J as a senior vice president and national business development director for the company. He will lead corporate strategic pursuits, strategic planning, government relations, and client development efforts.

Perry Smith, P.E., joined Collins Engineers, Inc., as the assistant vice president of structures. Working from Collins’ Chicago headquarters, Smith will focus on fostering existing and potential client relationships in the realm of waterfront engineering throughout the United States and internationally.

Bruce G. Kuffer, P.E., joined the Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI) as manager, market development for the PPI’s Municipal & Industrial Division. Kuffer will focus on expanding knowledge in trenchless applications for municipal, rural, marine, forced main and other applications.

The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) appointed Ted Ferragut, P.E., president of TDC Partners, Ltd., as a consultant for CRSI’s Transportation Division. Ferragut will be involved in developing and implementing a comprehensive transportation plan that addresses promotional and technical issues for highways, streets, bridges, and transportation facilities.

MACTEC Engineering & Consulting named Mike Clark, P.E., as Columbia, S.C., office manager. Clark has more more than 30 years of water resources engineering expertise working with state government and private consulting firms.

Three employees of ASCG Incorporated family of companies—Steve Ivey, Ernie Salazar, and Karen Tilton—received Certified Federal Surveyor certification from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Only 69 professional surveyors nationwide were certified in the new program, known as CFedS

Stephen C. Jenkins, P.E., joined CLC Associates, Inc.’s Denver office as project manager in the Civil Engineering Department. Jenkins brings to the firm expertise in land development engineering, including roadway design, commercial design, and multi-family subdivision design.

The North American Steel Sheet Piling Association (NASSPA) named Jeffrey H. Greenwald, P.E., CAE, its executive director. Greenwald is NASSPA’s first full-time executive director and will be establishing the association’s permanent office and developing its policies and procedures. Greenwald’s past experience includes vice president of engineering and product development for the National Stone Sand & Gravel Association, head of the National Concrete Masonry Association’s Research and Development Laboratory, structural engineer at Global Associates, and field engineer for Chicago Bridge and Iron Company.

Kurt Prochorena, P.E., L.E.P., joined BSC Group as director of land development for Connecticut. He has more than 16 years of experience as a consulting engineer, with extensive experience serving Connecticut’s public and private markets.

Louis A. Raimondi, P.E., L.S., P.P., a senior project manager in Maser Consulting P.A.’s West Nyack, N.Y., office, was awarded a lifetime membership in the American Water Works Association (AWWA). Raimondi has more than 45 years of experience in municipal engineering, including design and administration of water systems, sanitary and storm sewers, road improvement projects, land planning, and tax assessment maps, and has been a member of AWWA for more than 30 years.

Daft-McCune-Walker (DMW), a land development consulting firm, expanded its Towson, Md., headquarters with four new employees. It hired Aaron T. Briggs, P.E., as team leader; J. James Dieter as senior project manager/environmental regulatory specialist; and Gregory D. Grey, RLA, and Robert C. Johnson, E.I.T., as team managers. Briggs is responsible for managing multiple engineering projects, allocating resources, approving designs and budgets, facilitating community meetings, and testifying at public hearings. Dieter is responsible for all aspects of environmental projects, including due diligence, feasibility, permitting, and reporting. In their new positions, Grey and Johnson are responsible for managing projects from start to finish, with Grey focusing on projects in Howard County, and Johnson handling those in Baltimore City and County. Their duties include developing proposals and budgets, establishing and monitoring project schedules and recruiting new employees.

Rajan Sheth was recently honored by the American Council of Engineering Companies Wisconsin Chapter (ACEC WI) with the President’s Award. He was nominated for the award for his efforts to earn a higher level of respect for consulting engineering firms in Wisconsin and for his overall positive involvement in ACEC WI. Sheth is president and CEO of architectural engineering firm Mead & Hunt.

Dennis Kwiatkowski, a vice president with Dewberry’s Federal Programs group, was recently given the firm’s Harold Williams Award for Professional Excellence in recognition of his "management expertise and leadership, enduring professionalism, and outstanding field knowledge." Kwiatkowski has been with Dewberry since 1999 and manages efforts supporting FEMA and local communities with disaster response and recovery programs.

Collins appointed Elizabeth Burkhart, P.E., head of its new Rochester, N.Y., office. She has 15 years of experience in waterfront structural design and inspection and construction project engineering both in the United States and internationally. Heath K. Pope, P.E., joined Collins as the regional manager of the firm’s Holland, Mich., office, responsible for the oversight of projects operated out of that office. Pope replaces retiring regional manager, Pat Conroy. Collins also promoted James W. Long III, P.E., to regional manager, overseeing projects operated out of Collins’ Newport News, Va., office. James Cavalet, who has been acting as interim regional manager, will resume his role as project manager. James K. O’Connor, P.E,. was promoted to regional manager, overseeing projects operated out of Collins’ Charleston, S.C., office with additional responsibilities in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Dublin, Ireland. Perry Smith, P.E., joined Collins as the assistant vice president of structures. In his new role, Smith will focus on fostering Collins’ existing and potential client relationships in the realm of waterfront engineering throughout the United States and internationally.

David M. Conway, P.E., a senior project manager at Nitsch Engineering, recently became the firm’s ninth shareholder. Conway has 16 years of experience, the last 14 at Nitsch Engineering, in the field of civil engineering with an emphasis on providing civil/site design, roadway design, and construction administration.

RBF Consulting announced the addition of the following new stockholders during the firm’s State of the Company Annual Meeting: John Tanner, III, P.E., senior associate, land development; Trudy Lim, P.E., senior associate, land development; Margit Allen, AICP, senior associate, planning; Fabio Escobar, P.E., senior associate, land development; John Leonard, P.E., senior associate, land development; Steve Ott, senior associate, media arts studio; John Peters, CPA, senior associate and corporate controller; Pal Hegedus, P.E., senior associate, storm water management; Mike Sutton, P.E., senior associate, land development; Bill Wiseman, senior associate, planning; Mo Iacuelli, P.E., senior associate, land development; and Dan Pottinger, P.E., senior associate, land development. Also at RBF, Scott M. Larson, P.E., R.L.S., vice president, was appointed to head up the Water Resource Engineering Department in the firm’s Tucson office. Larson has more than 30 years of engineering and design experience in Arizona, with a focus on water resources planning and engineering.

Dennis Brownley was named vice president at MACTEC Engineering & Consulting based in MACTEC’s San Antonio office where he serves as program manager for all work performed for the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence. Brownley joined MACTEC in 2000, following retirement as Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force with more than 20 years of service. He served as a base bioenvironmental engineer at four installations worldwide.

PBS&J appointed Senior Vice President Clarence E. Anthony as chief marketing officer for the firm. In this role, he assumes overall leadership for business development and marketing services. Anthony joined PBS&J in 2004 as its director of government relations responsible for organizing and directing the firm’s business development activities related to municipal and regional governmental agencies. He also has served as mayor of South Bay, Fla., since 1984.

Vierbicher Associates, Inc., added Mike Kast to its Reedsburg office team. He will serve as survey crew chief responsible for property and construction surveying, drafting, and general crew leader responsibilities.

Gregory J. Soriano, a senior vice president with PB, died on April 14 after a battle with cancer. He was 56 years old. At the time of his death Soriano was northeast operations manager for PB. He had previously served as manager of the firm’s Newark and Princeton offices, with responsibility for overseeing PB’s operations in New Jersey. He served as PB’s principal in charge or project manager of numerous projects, including the extension of the Newark Light Rail that opened in July 2006, planning and design of facilities at McGuire Air Force Base in Wrightstown, the E-Z Pass system on the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike, and numerous roadway projects, including improvements to Route 30 and Route 40/322 in Atlantic City and Route 47 in Vineland and Millville. During his 35-year career, Soriano was also highway program manager for Louis Berger, an international engineering and environmental consulting firm and head of the New Jersey office for Storch Engineers.

Also at PB, Len Sanderson, former state highway administrator for North Carolina, was named a senior principal engineer at PB. He will be based in PB’s Raleigh-area office and will work closely with PB’s clients in North Carolina and South Carolina while continuing his participation in national transportation organizations. Sanderson joins PB following a 36-year career with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Laura Aldrete was named a consultant in the placemaking group, based in the firm’s Denver office. She provides planning expertise and project management for urban development and transit station projects, including the Denver Union Station project. Prior to joining PB, Aldrete was assistant director of the Denver Union Renewal Authority.

Greenhorne & O’Mara (G&O) appointed Frederick J. Wagner, P.E., senior vice president, Mid-Atlantic Transportation, as a new voting member of the G&O board of directors. Wagner is responsible for all G&O transportation operations in the Mid-Atlantic and has more than 25 years of experience in the engineering industry.

Margie Pozin, P.E., joined STV/Ralph Whitehead Associates as Southeast Transportation Group leader in the firm’s Atlanta office. She will direct the firm’s work on transportation projects for DOT, municipal, and private clients.

Westwood appointed Paul Greenhagen, P.L.S., to vice president. Prior to his promotion, Greenhagen was director of surveying services for land development clients and worked with Westwood’s survey group since its inception in 1986. As vice president, Greenhagen is involved in strategy and planning for the firm’s land and energy market sectors.

MWH promoted Vice President Brian Liming to location manager of its Boise, Idaho, office. Liming has been with MWH for 27 years as a civil engineer specializing in environmental engineering. As location manager, he will continue to work in MWH’s Municipal and State Services division, assisting key water, wastewater and environmental clients and will assume responsibility for the Boise office’s operations and client relations. MWH also added Virginia Grebbien, P.E., to its Municipal and State Services operating unit. As the director of Southwest operations, Grebbien will oversee municipal and state operations and projects in California and Nevada. Based in Pasadena, Calif., she will be responsible for more than 300 employees in 15 offices.

Medina Consultants promoted Steven C. Panayi, P.E., to department manager of bridge design for the firm. He has more than 16 years total structural engineering experience in design and inspection, including conceptual and final design of proposed structures, inspection and evaluation of existing structures, and contract specification and construction cost estimates for highway and railroad bridge projects, marine terminals, and buildings. Thomas J. Quinn, P.E., CME, joined Medina Consultants as department manager of land development and environmental services. His experience includes commercial and residential site design and permitting, construction engineering and management, as well as municipal engineering services. Also, Gene Lempicki joined Medina Consultants as vice president/branch manager of its New York operations. Lempicki, who previously served as director of business development/marketing for Skanska USA Civil, will also be in charge of Medina’s business development for engineering and construction services.

Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher appointed The Presnell Design Group President and CEO Michael C. Presnell to the Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission. Presnell, a member of the Cherokee Nation, leads the company’s efforts to promote the well-being of Native Americans throughout the country. The Presnell Design Group is a family of Native American-owned and controlled companies providing architectural, engineering, and related services.
