DVD shows geosynthetics solutions
TenCate Geosynthetics North America released a DVD featuring comprehensive video footage, PowerPoint presentations, and geosynthetic product solutions. The DVD contains three videos that promote Mirafi geosynthetic products, show the specific functions and applications of geosynthetics, and illustrate how geosynthetics perform in six system solutions throughout the world. Four PowerPoint presentations outline how Mirafi geosynthetics helped achieve results for TenCate customers. Specifically, the DVD contains the 2006 TenCate Mirafi Road Show video, a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) video, a sediment control video, 2006 TenCate Mirafi Road Show PowerPoint presentation, and an MSE PowerPoint Presentation

Woven and nonwoven geotextiles
Propex offers a wide selection of Geotex woven and nonwoven fabrics that can be used in applications ranging from separation, filtration, and drainage to erosion control and waste containment. According to the company, its Geotex woven geotextiles feature high tensile strengths, low elongations, and have a high capacity for filtering soils, distributing loads, reducing rutting, and extending the life of paved and unpaved roadways. Propex Geotex nonwoven geotextiles are needlepunched to form a strong fabric that retains its dimensional stability, adding years to the life of any roadway, landfill, or civil/environmental engineering project, the company says. All Geotex geotextiles are resistant to ultraviolet degradation and to biological and chemical environments normally found in soils.

Tree root control for levees and earthen dams
Fiberweb plc. says its Biobarrier Root Control System, which allows for tree growth without tree root intrusion, has been used on earthen dams and levees to help prevent roots from damaging the structures. Biobarrier is a geotextile fabric that follows the contours of the ground. For levees, it is placed over any structures and covered with dirt; because it’s porous to water, it doesn’t disturb soil hydrology. The geotextile was designed to slowly release trifluralin, a herbicide that works by creating a vapor zone where roots will not grow. Trees concentrate growth in branch roots away from the trifluralin zone and any roots reaching the zone begin to grow away from it.

Supplier achieves quality certification
Strata Systems, Inc., an international supplier of geosynthetics for soil reinforcement applications, announced its registration with ISO 9001:2000, an internationally recognized quality management system standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO 9001:2000 applies to organizations involved in the design and development, manufacturing, installation, and servicing of products. To be certified to the standard, companies must implement a comprehensive quality management system that addresses all areas of operation, from internal staff-training practices to product design, manufacturing, delivery, and service. Strata was recommended for ISO certification after a comprehensive, external audit of its quality management processes.
