IECA presents Environmental Excellence award winners
DENVER, COLO. — The International Erosion Control Association (IECA) presented its Awards of Environmental Excellence recognizing persons and projects epitomizing the principles of environmental excellence. Grant Witheridge and Mark Hunter, P.E., MPA, were both recognized with the Sustained Contributor Award for their long-term commitment to the erosion and sediment control industry; Gustavo Salerno, CPESC, received the Industry Professional of the Year Award; the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Roadside Environmental Unit was recognized with the Organization of the Year Award; and Brent Hallock, Ph.D., CPESC, CPSS, was recognized with the Presenter of the Year Award for his course, “Principles and Practices for Using Vegetation to Prevent Erosion” at the 2009 IECA conference in Reno.

Plastic Pipes Conference adds sessions
IRVING, TEXAS — The Plastic Pipe Conference Association’s Plastic Pipes XV Conference, Sept. 20-22, 2010, in Vancouver, BC, Canada, has been expanded to three full days to allow for more sessions. It is expected that there will be 110 papers presented, as well as more than 20 poster presentations. Rebar study report available
SCHAUMBURG, ILL. — The Epoxy Interest Group of the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute published a report on the performance of epoxy-coated bars in West Virginia. A study found that while the black bar decks were overlaid or otherwise rehabilitated after only 18 to 21 years to address deterioration of the deck surface, decks containing epoxy-coated reinforcing steel had not required repair after 33 years and the studied decks were in good to excellent condition.
