Ultra-light, rugged tablet PC
Motion Computing introduced its first rugged tablet PC. According to the company, the Motion CL900 offers as much as eight hours of battery life; meets MIL-STD-810G specifications (4-foot drop test); weighs 2.1 pounds; is less than 16mm thick; has an IP-52-rated exterior to protect against dust, moisture, and other elements; and has optional integrated Gobi 3000 mobile broadband with GPS, 802.11 a/b/g/n WLAN, Bluetooth 3.0, and a wireless SIM port. The 10-inch display enables both touch and stylus input and features Corning Gorilla Glass for added durability and scratch resistance and DuPont Vertak to improve visibility in various lighting conditions. The CL900 operates on Microsoft Windows 7 and is powered by the new Intel Atom processor. It is available with a 30-GB or 62-GB solid state drive and as much as 2 GB of RAM.

Concrete products for water infrastructure
Advanced Drainage Systems Inc. (ADS) acquired Greencastle, Pa.-based Frederick Precast Concrete Inc., which designs and produces box culverts, riser structures, and precast drop manholes for storm drain and sanitary sewer lines, plus precast endwalls. The acquisition enables ADS to provide a complete line of concrete sanitary, storm, and water structures to the mid-Atlantic states. ADS purchased the Foltz Concrete Pipe Company of Winston-Salem, N.C., in April 2010 and Piedmont Concrete of Pineville, N.C., in May 2010.

Eagle Point Software named an Autodesk Preferred Industry Partner
Eagle Point Software was chosen as a Preferred Industry Partner by Autodesk Inc. Eagle Point’s latest addition to its BIM solution portfolio, Siteworks for Revit, provides architects, landscape architects, and designers functionality within Autodesk Revit Architecture software to shape the terrain around their building designs. According to Eagle Point, architecture firms will better be able to communicate design intent to civil engineers through the use of dynamic grading tools to model pads, parking lots, streets, sidewalks, and retaining walls.

Pipe asset management tool
Bentley Systems Inc. released Bentley Pipe Renewal Planner, a decision support tool that the company said provides water utility owner-operators with a quantifiable and reproducible best practice for optimizing the replacement and rehabilitation of distribution network pipes. Pipe Renewal Planner ranks the worst-performing pipes in a network to more effectively prioritize network upgrades. It will be included in the new release of Bentley’s WaterGEMS and available as an add-on module for the new release of Bentley’s WaterCAD.

Reflectorless total station
GeoMax’s new GeoMax Zoom30 and Zoom20 total stations feature accXess reflectorless measurement technology measuring as far 600 meters, the company said, with integrated Bluetooth, USB memory stick port, 36-hour operating time with one battery, and operation in temperatures as low as -22 F. A new onboard suite of Apps is developed on the WindowsCE platform.

Roundabout design software
Transoft Solutions Inc. released TORUS 2.0 software for roundabout planning and design. The new release provides the ability to conduct 3D road surface grading modeling to analyze drainage patterns and then export to LandXML applications. Other new features include the ability to specify vehicle entry curves at multilane roundabout entrances, to perform vehicle drive path overlap analysis on multilane roundabouts, to design vehicle high-speed entry reduction treatment using successive curves on approaches, and to conduct roundabout design analysis and conditions checks.

Concrete tank companies merge
Natgun Corp. and DYK Inc. jointly announced the merger of their companies and the formation of a new parent company, DN Tanks Inc. Both companies specialize in design and construction of prestressed concrete storage tanks used for potable water, wastewater, chilled water, and other liquids. Initially, Natgun and DYK will operate under their existing names as divisions of DN Tanks.
