Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc.
(www.ads-pipe.com) says its Secugrid Geogrid is ideal as a ground reinforcement, or to increase the load-bearing capacity of weak subsoil, or in construction of a retaining wall. According to the company, Secugrid Geogrid provides high strength in an easy-to-install interlocking system with a structured grid surface that provides a high angle of friction and has excellent resistance to chemical or biological attack. It is available in rolls as long as 328 feet with a selection of mesh sizes.

American Excelsior Company’s (www.americanexcelsior.com) Recyclex turf reinforcement mat (TRM) and Recyclex TRM-V are made from 100-percent post-consumer recycled fibers from green or brown plastic bottles. According to the company, the crimped fibers provide a strong, curled, interlocking fiber matrix that conforms to the terrain and reduces water flow velocity. Recyclex fibers are stitched together by two layers of UV-resistant polypropylene netting to form a 3D matrix that is designed to provide permanent surface support for vegetation and structural root systems. Recyclex TRM-V is engineered for low- to medium-flow channels and slopes that require permanent vegetation reinforcement.

Conwed (www.conwedplastics.com) introduced NetPave, a permeable grass paving system manufactured from 100-percent recycled polyethylene. NetPave is engineered to provide durability and flexibility to help conform to irregular surfaces and gradients. Applications include parking areas, emergency vehicle access roads, and pathways where traffic can cause erosion and damage to the grass and landscape. According to the company, NetPave permeable pavers reduce stormwater runoff and increase infiltration with the strength and durability of impervious pavements such as concrete and asphalt.

Cooley Engineered Membranes, a division of Cooley Group (www.cooleygroup.com), developed CoolGuard-7 chemical-resistant membranes. According to the company, waterproofing applications once required membranes that were simply waterproof, but today, a growing number of construction and containment applications, including airport tunnels, building construction, road boat ways, and more, demand resistance to protect against existing fuel and chemical hazards found in soil and water supplies and any potential fuel or chemical spills. CoolGuard-7 is made with DuPont Elvaloy, making the product flexible without plasticizers that may cause potential leaching. CoolGuard-7 is heat weldable and available as thick as 80 mils in a variety of colors.

Drainage Products, Inc.
(www.drainaway.com) offers Drain Away, a prefabricated geocomposite drain consisting of a cuspated plastic core enveloped by a non-woven geotextile filter fabric. Water flows through the fabric from either side and into the voids created by the plastic core, where it is collected and carried away in a perforated pipe inserted in the bottom of the fabric envelope. According to the company, Drain Away can lower the water table without the labor and costs of aggregate and is ideal for site drainage, road construction, curtain drains, foundations, retaining walls, and slopes.

Fiberweb
’s (www.biobarrier.com) Biobarrier Root Control Fabric eliminates weed and tree growth in a variety of situations. Nodules in the fabric slowly release trifluralin, which prevents root tip cell division and inhibits root growth both above and below the fabric. It is frequently placed in areas where mechanical trimming or spraying herbicides is expensive or dangerous, such as under fences, brick or gravel walkways, and driveways; around the base of cellular phone towers; and under guardrails and signs on highways. It can be used along sidewalks, retaining walls, parking lots, buildings, swimming pools, foundations, and other structures to prevent damage from roots. It is also used on earthen dams and levees to prevent weakening by tree and vegetation roots.

Gundle/SLT Environmental, Inc. (GSE—www.gseworld.com) BioDrain is a drainage geocomposite comprising an upper filter nonwoven geotextile, a middle drainage high-density polyethylene geonet, and a bottom woven geotextile. The BioDrain blanket system is designed for leachate recirculation of bioreactor landfill cells to accelerate degradation and stabilization of the waste. This blanket system replaces conventional horizontal trenches or vertical wells. According to the company, benefits include better cost-efficiency and easier installation, more uniform leachate distribution, fast leachate travel rate to almost any points covered by the GSE BioDrain layer, minimal side-slope leachate breakout, and flexible design options in the woven filter’s permeability, opening size, strength, and UV resistance.

Hancor (www.hancor.com) offers a full selection of non-woven and woven fabrics for drainage, separation, stabilization, or soil-reinforcement applications. Additionally, Hancor’s woven silt fence geotextile product is available for use in road and sediment control projects to distribute loads, reduce rutting, and extend the life of a road.

Layfield (www.layfieldgroup.com) is the authorized Canadian distributor of Geoweb from Presto Geosystems (www.prestogeo.com). Geoweb is comprised of 3D structures that confine fill materials to create structural stability. By confining the fill material, Geoweb improves load-bearing capacity and prevents lateral spreading. To control erosion, Geoweb can be placed on a slope and infilled with a variety of fills such as soil, gravel, crushed rock, or concrete. According to the company, it can retain fine soils in place until vegetation develops. Geoweb is made from high-density polyethylene that has been welded together to form a series of individual cells, similar to a honeycomb. Available cell depths range from 3 inches to 8 inches.

Poly-Flex, Inc.’s (www.poly-flex.com) blown-film textured geomembrane liners have smooth edges that eliminate the concern of minimizing texturing to optimize welding. Additional personnel are not required to clean dirt and moisture from the seaming surface. According to the company, the smooth edges can be seamed with a wedge welder at speeds up to four times faster than textured sheet without smooth edges. Additionally, blown-film texturing provides increased friction angles for greater stability on steep-slope applications.

Profile Products LLC’s (www.profileps3.com) web-based Profile Soil Solutions Software (PS³) enables design professionals, agencies, and contractors to access engineering and agronomic assistance for erosion and sediment control. According to the company, PS³ integrates hydraulically applied and rolled erosion control products, sediment retention fiber rolls, and prescriptive agronomic formulations to develop agronomically sound erosion and sediment control site solutions. In addition, it provides complete design documentation, including product specifications, installation guidelines, CAD drawings, and other pertinent technical information.

PropexArmorMax Anchored Reinforced Vegetation System (http://armormax.geotextile.com) from Propex Geosynthetics is designed for severe erosion challenges. Consisting of Propex’s woven 3D High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat and earth percussion anchors, ArmorMax can be used in non-structural applications, including protecting earthen levees from storm surge and wave overtopping and stream, river, and canal banks from scour and erosion, as well as to protect stormwater channels in arid/semi-arid environments. For structural applications, Propex says ArmorMax can be engineered to provide surficial slope stabilization to resist shallow plane failures.

According to Seaman Corporation
(www.seamancorp.com), its XR Geomembrane products, classified as an ethylene interpolymer alloy, are stable with low thermal expansion-contraction properties. All Seaman geomembrane products come in factory panels greater than 15,000 square feet for less field seaming. They are available in three grades—XR-5 for broad chemical-resistant applications requiring high-strength membranes; XR-3 for moderate chemical resistant requirements in applications such as stormwater and domestic wastewater; and XR-3 PW, which are NSF 61-approved for potable water contact.

Strata Systems, Inc.
(www.geogrid.com) says its Stratagrid geogrids reinforce soil with their high molecular weight and high tenacity polyester yarn. The yarns are knitted into a dimensionally stable network of apertures providing tensile reinforcement capacity in both principle directions. A black UV-stabilized saturation coating provides further chemical and mechanical benefits. According to the company, Stratagrid geogrid is mechanically and chemically durable in the installation phase, in aggressive soil, or in aqueous environments. Stratagrid is produced in multiple strengths to provide the most efficient design possible and comes in a range of aperture sizes.

TenCate Geosynthetics
’ (www.mirafi.com) Mirafi S-Series nonwoven geotextiles are now available in a standard UV resistance of 80 percent strength retained after 500 hours of exposure. If additional UV resistance is required, the retained strength can be increased to 90 percent strength retained after 1,000 hours of exposure. Mirafi S-Series nonwoven geotextiles are used in environmental applications including critical subsurface drainage systems, soil separation, permanent erosion control, and protection of HDPE and other geomembranes in landfill construction. According to the company, they provide the required puncture strength and abrasion resistance to withstand installation and application stresses to create an effective long-term solution. Additionally, the geotextiles are now available in orange, white, and earth tone, as well as basic black.

Tensar International (www.tensarcorp.com) introduced TriAx Geogrid to complement its Biaxial Geogrid for roadway applications. TriAx Geogrid uses multi-directional properties of triangular geometry to increase in-plane, radial stiffness. According to the company, its square-edged rib shape and deeper rib profile confines aggregate to form a stabilized composite layer that optimizes the component thicknesses of aggregate and asphalt for paved applications and granular fill for unpaved applications. Tensar said that TriAx Geogrid can reduce asphalt quantities by 15 percent to 30 percent and aggregate base/subbase requirements by 25 percent to 50 percent, as well as extend maintenance and rehabilitation intervals and increase the service life of flexible pavements.

Watersaver (www.watersaver.com) provides a wide variety of slope-stabilization grids, nets, and geotextile products coupled with impermeable geomembrane liners made from PVC, polypropylene, reinforced linear low-density polyethylene, Hypalon, and XR-5. In business since 1953, Watersaver has fabricated more than 1.7 billion square feet of geomembrane liner.
